Violet Bank Museum is a museum located in the Violet Bank Historical House, built in 1778 as a home for General Gilbert du Motier. Between 1810 and 1815 the house was rebuilt after it burned down in 1800. In 1948, the city of Colonial Heights purchased the house and its initial purpose was to function as a library. Later, in 1988, Violet Bank became a museum of the most gorgeous federal design and American interiors decorative arts. The building is, of course, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered a Virginia historic Landmark.
