Known in its early French stages as Lafource-des-Chitimachas, Donaldsonville is located in Ascension Parish from Louisiana and it is also the county seat. Donaldsonville can be found on the banks of the Mississippi River and has a population of almost 8000 people on an area of 2.5 square miles. Donaldsonville was established in 1806 when land owner William Donaldson paid architect Barthelemy Lafon to make the plans of a new town. Another important exhibition is related to the free Afro-Americans in the region. The memorabilia was all donated from families and plantations in the state.

The Synagogues of Donaldsonville can be admired downtown Donaldsonville and are an important part of the history of the town and of the heritage, being the oldest buildings of this type in the United States of America. Some of them are from the early 1870s.
