Fort Knox is a United States army post in the state of Kentucky, just south of Louisville. Fortifications were build in the surrounding area of Fort Knox during the Civil War, as the forts were put on a strategic point overlooking the confluence of the Salt and Ohio Rivers. Later on, after the two world wars, Fort Knox was used as an Air Force training facility for several years. Nowadays, Fort Knox airfield is still in use by the United States Army Aviation Branch and has become an important tourist attraction.
Freeman Lake Park is a historical attraction near Fort Knox that includes the Sarah Bush Johnston Memorial and the Lincoln Heritage House. The park sits on a small lake and has a small playground for children. There is a Lincoln heritage site, where you can visit two cabins built by Lincoln himself. There is also a 1892 schoolhouse. The park is open all year round and you can enjoy a quiet, relaxing walk in the park and take in the fresh air and the beautiful landscape.
Patton Museum Cavalry and Armour is the place in Fort Knox where you can learn a lot of interesting information on the military history. The museum also holds a collection of tanks, so you have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the Second World War. Alongside all the military exhibits put on display, there is also a gift shop, where you can buy all kind of memorabilia to take home.
Lindsay Golf Course is an eighteen hole golf course located in Fort Knox and it features 6661 yards of golf from the longest tees. It is a great place to practice your golf skills,regardless if you are a novice or an expert in golfing. The venue has all the modern amenities, from restrooms to restaurants, bars and lounge areas.
