Fort Lee is a small town in the state of Virginia, with a population of 7269 residents, according to the 2000 census. Fort Lee Virginia is a United States Army post and headquarters of the US Army Combined Arms Support Command. Fort Lee Virginia was built in 1917 and within sixty days some 14.000 men were on the installation. Later on, in 1950 Fort Lee Virginia was reinforced and redesignated. The post became a Class 1 military installation under Second United States Army.
United States Army Women's Museum serves as an educational institution, providing military history training and instruction to soldiers, veterans, the civilian community and the tourists. The Fort Lee Virginia Museum has one of the most comprehensive and expansive collections in the world pertaining to women military service from all the branches. The museum collects, preserves, manages and exhibits these artefacts as a means to provide educational training.
Fort Lee Virginia Park is the place where you can take a break and relax, take a walk on the perfectly paved trails or take a deep breath of fresh air. There is a children's playground there, as well as modern amenities, such as restrooms, restaurants, where you can enjoy a satisfying meal, and pubs, where you can benefit from beverages of all kinds.
Petersburg National Battlefield Park is located only three miles southwest of Fort Lee and it represents the battlefield that brings you back to the times of Civil War. The used cannons and all the other weapons are put on display. The museum shows you a short film to acquaint you with the facts of the Civil War. Then, you can walk around the battlefield, which is amazing. It is truly a place that must not be missed. The staff is very friendly and informative and willing to give you additional information whether you need.
