Garden City is a beautiful Kansan city, located in Finney County and being the county seat at the same time. The history of Garden City began in 1878, when the Fulton family came to the area. Then, the Fulton brothers began to promote Garden City and, shortly, an economic boom led to the thorough development of the city. Now, there are 26.658 people living in Garden City, according to the 2010 census. Nevertheless, Garden City is also a great place to visit, as it provides numerous cultural and recreational activities for people all ages.
The Lee Richardson Zoo is the third largest facility of the kind in the whole state of Kansas and it welcomes thousands of visitors every year. You will be able to admire here a wide collection of animals, representing more than 110 species. The zoo offers everyone the chance to admire the animals while learning interesting facts about them, too.
The Finney County Historical Society is the place where you will be able to learn more about the history, culture and traditions of the area. The society is also home to the Finney County Historical Museum, where you will get to see numerous galleries and artifacts, from all the historical periods of Garden City and the county.
The Big Pool is located inside Finnup Park and it is one of the best providers of family fun in the area, especially when the temperatures are over the top. If you feel that the heat is unbearable, you can come here and relax by the pool.
The Windsor Hotel is one of the oldest buildings in Garden City. Its construction began in 1887 and was designed by the architect John A. Stevens. Many personalities have stayed here over the years, including Eddie Foy and Buffalo Bill Cody.
Garden City Plaza is the main shopping facility serving the area. Shopping enthusiasts will love this place, where famous brands like Sears or Dollar General retail. The foodcourt here is also excellent, as you can eat from KFC, Taco Bell or other typical American restaurants.
