Grand Haven is a beautiful city located in the state of Michigan, more exactly in Ottawa County, at the mouth of the Grand River, being the county seat at the same time. Settlers came to the area a very long time ago, but the name of Grand Haven only arose in 1835. Then, Grand Haven became incorporated in 1867.
This wonderful community has developed hugely ever since, Grand Haven now being a great resort, providing numerous boating and fishing possibilities. Grand Haven has a population of 10.412 people, according to the 2010 census, making it an important part of the Holland - Grand Haven Metropolitan Area. The Grand Haven State Park is a beautiful recreational facility, as it is located on the coast of Lake Michigan. The park spans on 48 acres and it is a very popular place for people all ages. Among the facilities offered by the park, some of the best ones are camping sites, a beach area, a large pier and picnic areas. Here, you can experience swimming, fishing, hiking and cross-country skiing, and there are also specially designed playing areas for children.
The Grand Haven Musical Fountain is one of the landmarks of Grand Haven. This beautiful fountain provides a wonderful synchronized display of water and lights, using many themes in the performances. A sound system is also included. The fountain was designed by the local engineer William Morris Booth II, somewhere around 1962, and it resembles a similar facility from Germany.
Coast Guard Festival is a very popular event in Grand Haven, which takes place every year, from the end of July until August. The first edition of the festival was held in 1924, in order to honor the Coast Guard and the people who have sacrificed their lives serving it. The festival lasts for 10 days and it gathers more than 350.000 people every year, who come here to enjoy the numerous events and performances.
