Hazel Crest is a small but charming village in the state of Illinois, United States, located more exactly in Cook County. The history of Hazel Crest began in 1870, when the village was first settled as a farming community named South Harvey. Then, the Ohio newspaper editor William McClintock moved here in 1890. He bought 80 acres of land and started developing, and eventually changed the name of the village to Hazel Crest. He was inspired in choosing the name by the large number of hazelnut bushes that were growing there. Now, there are 14.816 people living in Hazel Crest, according to the 2000 census, but the population is increasing steadily due to the employment possibilities and the beauty of the village.
