The name of Lomita means in Spanish "little knoll" and exists since the area of the town was part of Rancho San Pedro and included in the Spanish Empire. It was established around mid 18th century and incorporated a Lomita City on June 30, 1964. In present, Lomita has an area of less than 2 square miles and a population of 20,000 residents.
