Lomita is a beautiful city located in Los Angeles County, California, United States of America. The name of Lomita means in Spanish "little knoll" and exists since the area of the town was part of Rancho San Pedro and included in the Spanish Empire. It was established around mid 18th century and incorporated a Lomita City on June 30, 1964. In present, Lomita has an area of less than 2 square miles and a population of 20,000 residents. Lomita used to be larger, but parts of it were annexed to nearby cities. Famous residents of Lomita include pitcher Ted Lilly, music band Descendants and athlete Jim Thorpe. 1) The Lomita Railroad Museum:  Built to resemble the Boston and Maine Greenwood Station in Wakefield, Massachusetts, and opened in 1966, the Lomita Railroad museum specialises in locomotives from the steam era.  The museum features a 1901 Baldwin Locomotive, a 1910 Union Pacific caboose and a Santa Fe Caboose.  Visitors will also find locomotives that appeared in the 1950s classic, The Greatest Show on Earth, and the 1965 thriller, Von Ryan's Express.  The museum is adjacent to a small, outdoor recreational area with Union Pacific and Union Oil railroad cars. 

2) Beaches:  The township of Lomita is located six miles from the Pacific coast, and is equidistant to Hermosa and Redondo Beaches. 

3) Lomita Park: The beautiful Lomita Park hosts outdoor events and celebrations year-round, offering funfair rides, food and live entertainment for the family.  Visitors are encouraged to check the local events calendar.

4) Kamiyama Sushi: Sushi lovers will be happy to know that Lomita is home to the famous Kumiyama Sushi restaurant, which attracts visitors from throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
