The history of Madison goes back to 1641, when the town was settled and named East Guilford. Later on, Madison became incorporated in 1826 and its name was changed. According to the 2010 census, Madison has a total population of 18,812 residents and spans on a total area of 36.8 square miles (95.3 sq km).
