Midlothian is an unincorporated community in the state of Virginia, founded over 300 years ago as a coal mining village. Nowadays, this small town is a suburban community located in the southside of Richmond well beyond the city limits of Richmond. It was named for the early 18th century coal mining enterprises of the Wooldridge brothers, who came from the surrounding mining villages. Aside from the mining industry, Midlothian has also become a commercial area and a residential suburb and an eclectic town, where the new and the old intermingle.
