New Albany is a city located in Indiana, United States. The county seat of Floyd County, New Albany was founded in 1813, along the Ohio River. The city was incorporated only in 1839. New Albany has an area of 14.8 square miles (38.3 square kilometers) over which live more then 36,370 residents. New Albany is one of the most important cities in the area, also being one of the most developed ones. The establishment of the steamboat industry in New Albany was the first step for the boost for its economical growth. The Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site is a place of a huge importance for New Albany. The home of William Culbertson for many years, the building dates back to 1867. The house was built in the style of the French Second Empire, being able to easily charm with its lovely looks. Furniture specific to those time can be admired in this spot. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places back in 1974.
New Albany Main Street is a spot that cannot be missed when being in the city. Here, you will find a large collection of historical houses, specific to the 19th century. The whole street actually is very representative for the shipbuilding industry of New Albany.
The Harvest Homecoming is one of the most important festivals of New Albany. In fact, this is one of the largest events in the whole state, so there is no wonder that the Harvest Homecoming has become so popular all over the US. The events start on the first weekend of October, and last almost a week. Of course, the festival is held every year and the celebrations include midway rides and many entertaining shows.
