Plymouth, also known through its long history as Plimouth or Plimoth is a lovely town located in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States of America. Plymouth is considered to be "America's Hometown", because it had a major influence in folklore and culture. Plymouth was founded in 1620 by the passengers of the famous ship Mayflower and is the place where New England was initially established. The city of Plymouth is the oldest in the New England area and one of the oldest in the United States of America. In this town was celebrated for the first time the Thanksgiving feast. Because of this, during this celebration, the town is filled with tourists. 

Plymouth Massachusetts has a whole host of activities, many of which centre around its fame as the place where the Pilgrims first landed in the year 1620. But it is now a vibrant and chic place to visit, but steeped in history. 

Top Attractions within Plymouth

Plymouth Rock is one of the most interesting attractions of the city. It is said that this rock marks the place where the pilgrims disembarked and the place is the topic of many local legends. It was first identified in 1741 by Thomas Faunce, a successor of one of the persons who arrived in Plymouth three years after Mayflower.

Plimoth Plantation
 is a historical museum recreating Plymouth as it was settled in the early 17th century. The tour guides are dressed in accordance to that era. The farm incorporated in the area of the museum also hosts several animals that the colonists were supposed to raise.

Mayflower II
 is an identical replica of the Mayflower ship which brought the first settlers to Plymouth in 1620. The ship works as a museum and can be admired inside the limits of the Plimoth Plantation.

Pilgrim Hall Museum
 is the oldest public museum from Plymouth. It was opened in 1824 and now houses a museum history related to the travel of the pilgrims.

1. Pilgrim Hall. Visit the Pilgrim Hall which is America's oldest Museum boasting a range of activities and historical artefacts which relate to the Pilgrims and their voyage across the water. A real eye opener for all the family.

2. Whale Watching Expedition. Try a Whale Watch excursion, from Captain John Boats, leaving from Town Wharf. You will sail out to Stellwagen Bank and watch the whales feeding. An awesome experience.

3. Harlow Old Fort Museum. For a museum which is just that little bit different, try visiting the Harlow Old Fort Museum on Sandwich Street. Here you can learn to live like the Pilgrims, with candle dipping and learning to spin and then weave wool. Fun for everyone.

4. Blake Planetarium Learn about the 'real' stars at the Blake Planetarium in Long Pond Road, which has a detailed and informative range of facilities, including a projector which shows you the sky from any location you choose on earth. You can even choose the time and date!

5. The Ships! The Ships! Visit the Mayflower II on the State Pier. It is an almost exact replica of the Mayflower which travelled from England and actors help bring the whole story to life. Marvel at just how cramped conditions were and how frightening the journey would have been.
