Explore the Great City of Raleigh in a Cheap and Reliable Car Rental

airport terminal plane park

Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina and a city famed for its majestic oak trees and, alongside Durham and Chapel Hill, its inclusion in the “Research Triangle” metropolitan area. Located in a beautiful part of the country, Raleigh is only a few hours' drive from either the Blue Ridge mountains to the west or the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Be sure to use VroomVroomVroom and arrange a car rental if you're traveling to Raleigh, as an afternoon drive for sight-seeing might just lead to a mountain hike or a long walk along the beach!

In the 21st century, Raleigh has been mentioned by a number of “Top 10 Lists,” including Money Magazine, Forbes and MSNBC, as a city with high quality of life and a great business climate. Raleigh is home to two amazing museums, so if you have some free time, drive your rental vehicle over and visit the Museum of Natural Sciences or the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Famous Americans born in Raleigh include “American Idol” singer Clay Aiken and actors Michael C. Hall and Evan Rachel Wood. The Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League play their home games at PNC Arena in Raleigh, and in 2006 won the Stanley Cup – the first and only pro sports title in North Carolina history.

Raleigh became the capital of its state for an unusual reason after the American Revolutionary War. The British Army had laid siege to former North Carolina capital New Bern – a port city close to the ocean – and Raleigh was chosen because its location farther inland made it harder to attack! The city's name honors early North Carolina colonist Sir Walter Raleigh.
