Ripley is a beautiful city located in West Virginia, United States. Ripley is the county seat of Jackson County, being situated along Mill Creek. The city has an area of 3.1 square miles and a population of more than 3,200 residents, at the 2000 census. Ripley was first settled in the 1760s by William, John and Lewis Rodgers. However, the town was named Ripley only in 1830, in honor of Harry Ripley, a young minister. Ripley is well known nowadays for hosting an impressive festival for the Forth of July, the "Biggest Small Town Fourth of July Celebration."
