Find and Compare a Cheap and Reliable Car Rental in Sacramento

sacramento car rental

Sacramento is a city of about 480 thousand people, located in California's Central Valley, about 90 miles north of San Francisco. Sacramento is the state capital of California, and the 6th biggest city in the state. If you count the 2 million additional residents of this city's suburbs – including the city of Davis, home to UC Davis Medical Center – Sacramento is really the 4th biggest metropolis in California (behind only Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco). Over 200 years ago, a Catholic writer who accompanied Spanish explorer Gabriel Moraga wrote, “It's like the Holy Sacrament.” This description led to Sacramento's name.

If you'll be in Sacramento for business or just for fun, it's always useful to book a car rental in order to move around this 100 square mile city. Sacramento has a lot of historic buildings and landmarks that are interesting to many people, and it's also home to a lot of fine dining and fun nightlife that will make you regret not being able to drive if you don't rent a car! The best reason to book your Sacramento car rental with us is the savings – we help people in Sacramento every day to find the lowest rates on rental cars in the capital, and all across California. VroomVroomVroom's easy-to-use system makes it easy to save money.

Travelers who fly to Sacramento will often land at Sacramento International Airport (airport code: SMF). This airport offers flights to and from many destinations in the continental U.S., Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and also flights that will then connect to Asian, European or South American cities.

At Sacramento International, you'll find 7 major car rental companies located on-airport at a rental car terminal. To get there, take the on-airport car hire shuttle, which departs from the designated stop areas – at curbside on the ground level outside both terminals – every 15 minutes. It will transport you to any of the on-airport car rental companies, including Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National. The airport advises travelers that the wait time for a shuttle may be longer during Sacramento International's peak hours, 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to Midnight.

Advance Rent A Car and Payless Car Rental also serve Sacramento International, and pick up customers from the rental car terminal. The SMF website also advises you, if you will need an equipped vehicle for a person with disabilities, to contact one of 4 Sacramento car rental providers – Avis, Budget, Hertz or National – and to make the reservation at least 48 to 72 hours in advance to ensure availability.

The car rental that you book with us today can be used to take you anywhere you want to go in the Sacramento Metropolitan Area. But where should you go or what should you do, if you've run out of ideas and have a few hours to kill? Here are some suggestions from your friends here at VroomVroomVroom…

Drive that awesome rental car over to the California State Railroad Museum. It's one of the best museums in this fine city, and attracts over half a million visitors every year! Its claim as the biggest railroad museum on the entire continent is hardly in doubt, because it's filled by fascinating displays, educational areas about the history of the railroad, and special exhibits that change often. If you've been there before, it's probably time to visit again! And your cheap car rental can take you there in a jiffy!

The next stop on the Sacramento-to-Awesome VroomVroomVroom train (ok… ok, we don't really have a train!) is the Crocker Art Museum. Back in 1885, this was one of the 1st art museums in the country, and is one of the top art institutions in the state! It has one of the world's best collection of art from California, and many other interesting exhibits – like international ceramic art, and works from across Africa, Asia and Europe. Drive on over in your rental car and spend an afternoon seeing some truly wonderful and beautiful works!

When it's time to go and get some fresh air, we hope you're a biking enthusiast! Because in Sacramento, you should definitely park that cheap car rental and hit the American River Bicycle Trail. This trail – which is part of the American Discovery Trail, is exclusively for non-motorized usage, and extends throughout Sacramento. It's the most fun you'll have on two wheels!
