Walnut is a charming city in Los Angeles County, California, with a population of 29.172 residents at the 2010 census. The current mayor of Walnut is Tom King, a former detective from the Los Angeles Police Department. The city of Walnut obtained its name from the Rancho Los Nogales Mexican land grant, nogales being the Spanish word for walnut. Walnut is a hilly and affluent city, relatively more quiet in comparison to nearby neighbourhoods. The history of Walnut goes back to the Native Americans, who were banished from the land when the Spaniards came in the 19th century. Nowadays, the land in Walnut is used for raising cattle and growing wheat, grapes and fruit trees.
