Waynesville is the county seat of Haywood County, North Carolina, United States of America. Waynesville is the largest city in the county and in the western area of the state, located close to Asheville, between Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains. The city has approximately 10,000 residents and an area of 7.8 square miles. Waynesville was settled by Robert Love, a fighter in the American Revolutionary War, in 1810. He donated the land for Waynesville and named it this way in honor of his formed commander, Anthony Wayne, known to soldiers as "Mad" Anthony Wayne. Waynesville was incorporated in 1871.
