Waynesville is the county seat of Haywood County, North Carolina, United States of America. Waynesville is the largest city in the county and in the western area of the state, located close to Asheville, between Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains. The city has approximately 10,000 residents and an area of 7.8 square miles. Waynesville was settled by Robert Love, a fighter in the American Revolutionary War, in 1810. He donated the land for Waynesville and named it this way in honor of his formed commander, Anthony Wayne, known to soldiers as "Mad" Anthony Wayne. Waynesville was incorporated in 1871. Pisgah National Forest is a wonderful natural area located in the Appalachian Mountains, near Waynesville. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its incredible beauty. The area of the park used to be the home of Cherokee Indians, but in the 18th and 19th centuries, frontiersmen settled here. Within the area of the park, two main attractions are Sugarlands Visitors' Center and Oconaluftee Visitors' Center.
Blue Ridge Parkway is a national park well known for its scenic beauty. If you visit Waynesville, you should not miss this important attraction of the area. It was established in 1936 and in the last decade it was visited by approximately 20 million tourists each year.
